Volume, shape and size of our roofs

A major field of application which involves the broad and varied use of terracotta is roofing. SanMarco produces flat and curved tiles and accessories for every type of roof; non-continuous units whose effectiveness lies in the overlapping that creates a continuous surface to withstand rain.

Mediterranean shapes

The tradition of clay roof shingles and tiles is extremely widespread even today, particularly in the Mediterranean basin, but over time, especially from the 19th century onwards, and with the advent of industrial production, numerous varieties have arisen, geared to making the connection system between tiles more effective. Today the SanMarco range includes many classic shapes such as the Portuguese tile, which combines a flat tile and a curved one in a single item, and the Marseilles tile, ideal for many difference uses – from a Liberty style building to industrial architecture converted into luxury loft apartments, or buildings in a marine setting and often battered by the wind, where the particular reciprocal linking with units on either side guarantees stability and safety. In addition to these standard solutions, SanMarco has developed numerous tile types which, while falling into the category of traditional Mediterranean tiles, are distinguished by larger sizes and optimised features, in the interests of greater energy efficiency and superior performance.
